Greater Manchester roads have been getting deadlier year-on-year. Between 2017-2021 there were 1,127 road collisions in which a pedestrian was killed or seriously injured. And in 2022 alone, 25 people were killed by drivers. With this in mind, as the darker nights begun to draw in, Transport for Greater Manchester wanted to deliver a campaign to encourage drivers to rethink their behaviour and pay greater attention behind the wheel.
To bring this life-saving message to the minds of the Mancunians, we created an impactful exhibition in the heart of city. The installation, housed on Market Street in central Manchester, showcased 25 pairs of shoes that each represented a pedestrian and the last steps they took. Highlighting their loss on illuminated plinths ensured that other members of the public wouldn’t have to follow in their footsteps.
